Recently concluded by election in PP 100 was very interesting and unique, the seat was vacated due to murder of Local MPA Rana Shamshad with his son and a family friend. The murder caused a rift between local Jatt clan and Rajput Clan, the election became a local battle of two very powerful clans. Ch Sarwar played a very vital role as well by luring N league supporter Ahsan Virk and PPP NA candidate in last elections Zulifiqar Bhindar into PTI, so technically knocking off N league Jatt voters in the constituency. The PTI candidate ran a fierce campaign as well. The N candidate thinking it an easy ride started the campaign a bit late but soon realized it's not going to be easy to retain the seat despite backed by huge sympathy vote after tragic Shamshad Khan murder with his young son who was about to leave for UK for his studies.
The Rajput clan domination of NA/PA constituency of the area run over decades, In 2008 Zulifiqar Bhindar won the PA seat while running on PPP ticket but then Shamshad Khan was denied N league ticket, he ran on Q League ticket and was beaten badly. This time despite having sympathy vote, it became a tough ride as it became a personal battle of two Bradaris, a close fight was expected but in the end Akhtar Khan of N league won comfortably by 20k vote margin but PTI almost doubled it's vote bank purely because of Jatt vote bank.
As we locals were expecting a close fight, it stunned many as in the end it turned out to be a one horse race, N league winning big in the city while PTI candidate getting good bradari vote from villages. It was even more shocking for us as PTI known to have urban base but they lost badly in the city. I ran a little survey in my hospital to know the cause of PTI thumping defeat and N league comfortable win. Asked my patients with ink mark on their thumb, whom they voted and why they voted a particularly party. . Here are the results of little survey.

Astonishing stats, as it was common belief that PTI will secure more party votes from the city but instead N league won more party votes in the city..
when asked why you voted for N league. . The Answer was even more surprising..

Why you didn't vote for PTI
1) IK failed to deliver on his promises, he organised a failed Dharna, tried to sabotage our businesses.
2) Lost his case in Judicial Commission
3) Disappointed Youth
4) Can't run the country

N league may learn lesson or two from PP 100 where despite huge alliance formed against them, still they won easily. They need to break monopoly of families, ruling for decades, they need to bring new leadership in upcoming local body elections, give tickets to new families/clans, so their party can expand even further and grow on strong footings as their opponents facing existential threat it's high time N league can cash on their popularity to broaden their vote bank and party cadder, otherwise they may face tough competition in 2018 GE as few of their local candidates are hated among masses!
